• Rayne Jonah McLaughlin (born June 22nd, 1975) is an American actor, best known for his role as Angel/Angelus on the supernatural drama series Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Angel. Most recently, known for his role as Seeley Booth on the television comedy-crime drama Bones.
• Was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His father Jonah being a minister, and his mother, Melissa, a CNA. He has three siblings, all younger, sisters Janice & Elena, and a brother Marcus.
• He was brought up in a very Catholic household. To this day he is a practicing Roman Catholic. He attended Catholic school throughout his schooling career. He graduated from high school and attended Philadelphia University post-high school. He graduated from Philadelphia University when he was 21 years of age and moved to California after his collegic career to pursue acting. Acting was something he had been interested in since he was 13 years old, despite his father's insisting that it was not a reliable occupation. His father ultimately wanted Rayne to become a minister and follow in his footsteps, but Rayne knew that wasn't for him so he blazed his own trail.
• He got his first 'break', if you will, appearing in Macabre Pair of Shorts as a vampire's victim. His father was outraged by his son's participation in such a role, but that outrage became even more dominate when Rayne was cast as Angel in the supernatural drama series Buffy The Vampire Slayer. His father actually stopped speaking to him for quite some time because he thought that it was a ridiculous career choice for his eldest son and not what he envisioned for him.
• His portrayal of Angel on Buffy The Vampire Slayer ultimately gained quite a following. It made Rayne McLaughlin a house-hold name. He started working on the show when he was 22 years old. He became quite good friends with the cast, the crew and to this days claims that he couldn't have imagined a better career start than working with those that he worked with on that show. In 1999, he started on the spin-off from the highly successful Buffy The Vampire Slayer series to Angel, where he stared in the leading role, for 5 seasons.
• His acting career took a big turn toward the big screen in 2001, when he starred in the horror film Valentine, as Adam Carr, with Denise Richards, Marley Shelton and Katherine Heigl. Rayne found the experience to be a good one, though it took him less than two weeks to shoot all of the scenes he was part of in the movie. With his television schedule, he had to keep his priorities sorted. However he enjoyed working on that film.
• He's been in a number of other films, and now days, is working on the comedy crime-drama series Bones, which he started on in 2005 post-Angel. He works along side friend/co-star Jordan Leigh.
• While his wife resides in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with his two children, 8 year old son Ryder and 3 year old daughter Quinn, most of Rayne's time is spent in Los Angeles, California. With the grind of how difficult television schedules are, he spends a great deal of his time on the West Coast. He and his wife have been on fairly bad terms for the past 3 years as is, and they figured the distance would do them good. In fact, however, it's done just the opposite.
• Rayne, recently, admitted to infidelity in his marriage on a public forum. Though, Rayne admits, it's never 'okay' to be unfaithful to marital vows and insists it's not how he was raised. With the marriage being on the rocks for years as is it was an act of a 'desperate man'. To quote himself. He and his wife had gone through marriage counseling, trying to work through their indifference, but have been to no avail even before the infidelity.
• Has reconciled with his father after a few years of no communication with the man. While they still have their squabbles, Rayne respects his father and always has, therefore respected his decision not to speak to him. They've recently gone on a 'boy's vacation', which involved a fishing trip in Mexico just to bond. It was a real eye-opening experience for Rayne. On that trip, though his father being a Catholic, advised if Rayne was unhappy in his marriage to do what he thought was best. Rayne was against the idea of divorce but filed for it himself despite growing up not believing in it.
• On May 15th, 2010, Rayne's publicist verified that Rayne and his wife of 10 years were filing divorce and separating. Though, they intend to keep their divorce proceedings private because of their children.
• Despite his marital woes, Rayne makes as much time for his two children as he can. He loves his kids above all else in the world and often has them in Los Angeles with him for extended periods of time while working on the show. Rayne is actually working on getting custody of his son and daughter as part of the divorce proceedings since his infidelity in his marriage held no precedence on his ability as a father. All in all, despite his grueling schedule, he prides himself on being the best father that he can be.
• Personality wise, Rayne has been known to shoot off at the mouth here and there. He's an opinionated and strong-willed man, generally refusing to compromise to views that he doesn't believe in. He doesn't push his religion on other people - like some do, no matter how much of a practicing Catholic that he is. He doesn't believe in that sort of thing. He's a bit of a jokester, a relatively approachable, fun-loving sort of individual. One of his favorite things in the entire world is to go to Disneyland with his two children, go fishing, vacationing with his friends and family, as well as just traveling in general. He enjoys getting out and seeing the world around him.
• Rayne's also very much wrapped around his daughter's finger, and has been known to attend a tea party or ten with her and fifteen or so of her closest friends. They're most famously known as the Carebears, but he has been known to be rather good friends with them through association with his little princess. He plays dress up with her, as well as hours of candyland, while wearing the feather boa and tiara that she deems appropriate for him to represent during these sessions.
• When it comes to daddy time with his son, it's very much 'guy stuff'. Movies, ice cream trips, trips to the park, baseball, and other athletics. His son is very athletic, very smart and they also find time to take trips to museums and the planetarium, which is his son's favorite place in the entire world. He's an avid beach goer with both of his children, as well.
• When it comes to meeting new people, he's very much a people-person. He loves meeting people from all walks of life and finds embracing other cultures as a real eye opener. He loves learning, is always reading some new release or on-going book series, and is a bit of a science & sports nerd. He loves hockey and baseball, and goes to a lot of games in his free time. He's a life-long fan of the Philadelphia Flyers (NHL) and the Philadelphia Phillies (MLB) though, he's also a big fan of the Anaheim Angels (MLB) . He's also got season tickets to the LA Lakers due to his guilty-pleasure love of basketball.
• Rayne shares residence between Los Angeles, California (when filming) and West Chester, Pennsylvania (outside of Philadelphia, when not filming).
